Cayman Open promises best ever tennis tournament

(CNS):  The Cayman Islands Tennis Club will be hosting an event this weekend hatt organizers have described as “the most competitive and best tournament that the Caribbean Region has seen in decades and the best that Cayman has ever put on”. Dominik Hrbaty, who used to be ATP 12 in the world, is taking part, as well as young up and coming star Farruhk Dustov, who is now currently ATP 99 in the world.

Tennis playerDamion Johnson, a Jamaican born Davis Cup player who runs his own tennis academy in Jamaica, will also be participating, along with a number of international past and up and coming players.  Devin Mullings who represents the Bahamas and has appeared in 17 Davis Cup ties has beaten Andy Murray, Kevin Anderson, Gael Monfils and Donald Young, will join tennis pros from Finland, Venezuala, France, the US and Slovakia.

Spectating at the event taking place at the club in South Sound is free and the local tennis club said a number of other stars who will be competing in Miami this week may also join the line-up.

The 2015 Cayman Open started Thursday 26 March at 4pm with the Singles first round then the Singles Quarterfinals followed by doubles first round action take place Friday. On Saturday 28 March the Singles Semi-finals will take place followed by more doubles action. The finals for all of the matches will then take place on Sunday.

The club is also running tennis clinics for adult and junior players. The clinics offered amateurs the chance of a lesson with some of the professional coming to Cayman to compete.
