John Gray High School’s winning tree decoration

(CNS): Students from John Gray High School walked away with $1,000 in arts supplies after clinching the top spot in the tree decorating competition at this year’s Cayfest Red Sky at Night festival. This is the third year that the Cayman National Cultural Foundation has run the contest in which trees at the Harquail Cultural Centre were dressed up to sparkle during the festival. Groups of five students from George Town Primary School, Grace Christian Academy, John Gray High School Art Club and Prospect Primary School took part in the competition, and each school chose its own theme. A panel of judges, along with CNCF’s faithful Facebook friends, selected the winning school.

John Gray High School’s winning theme was ‘A Rainbow Garden’ and 95% of the materials in their colourful display were recycled. George Town Primary School shared their love of Cayman’s flora and fauna as well as our maritime heritage, and Prospect Primary School went around the globe with flags, symbols and objects from various countries and cultures. Grace Christian Academy used a subtle combination of blue and white along with angelic cutouts to transform their tree.
