(CNS): A colourful exhibition of handcrafted story-boards by local students is on display at the George Town Public Library for four more days. Featuring posters produced for a competition that required young people to write analytically about a book of their choice some 34 young book-lovers from eight schools submitted entries.

“Students put a tremendous amount of thought and care into the stories that they selected, as well as the production of the storyboards,” said Paul Robinson, the Deputy Director of the Public Library Service. “We believe people will be surprised at the outstanding job they have done in bringing written material to life, and we urge everyone to come out to the library this week to see their achievement,” Robinson added.

Students entered as individuals or teams in age groups, six to nine years or 10-13 years and a judging panel awarded the prizes based on written and visual criteria. Participants had to identify basic information relating to the book, including: a plot summary and description of the core conflict, its solution, as well as the author’s purpose, the tone and mood. They also received points for clarity, creativity, thoroughness and visual presentation

Reading charity Literacy Is For Everyone (LIFE) and the Cayman Islands Information Professionals (CIIP), organised the Book Fair and Poster competition. The Public Library hosted the event and sponsored Kindle Fires for the first-place prize winners in each age group. Second place winners earned gift certificates to local book stores.

The George Town Public Library is open Monday to Friday 10.00am -6.00pm and Saturday 10.00am-2:00pm. The 12 young people who picked up prizes for their efforts are as follows:
