(CNS): Despite sitting in first position at the end of the first day of competition in this weekend’s Cayman leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s (CEA) Junior Show Jumping event at the weekend, two missed jumps pushed the team off the top spot. As a result, Barbados came in first, followed by Trinidad and Tobago, with the Cayman Island third and Jamaica coming in last at fourth.

However, Cayman’s Chloe Fowler gained first place in the 14 and under category with the least number of faults.

Cayman was represented by Phoebe Serpell (16) and Chloe Fowler (14), and Michelle Boucher was the competition’s local FEI judge.

On the first day the riders completed two courses on two different horses. Fowler had two clear rounds and Serpell had just one jumping fault and one time fault, putting Cayman in the lead with a total of five faults.  Barbados was second with six, while Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica had one point between them, at 10 and 11 respectively.

But Sunday’s competition on a tighter course with the riders on different horses saw a Jamaican rider eliminated in the 14 and under category and a number of upsets for Team Cayman, who knocked down two poles to collect eight jumping faults, leaving the home team in third place.

Cayman also hosted an International Invitational Competition for riders aged 12 and under for the first time with Eva Muspratt, Abbey Swartz, Meegan Slattery, Grace Bostock, Laney Bodden and Basil Humphries jumping for Cayman.  Two young riders also took part from Barbados and one from Jamaica.  Top individual performance based on combined results for the two days of competition was awarded to Eva Muspratt for two outstanding clear rounds on her pony, Oscar The Great and Powerful.

Cayman’s showjumpers will meet again on Sunday 26 April at 8.30am in the fourth and final leg of the 2015 National Jump Series. The league championships will be decided at the Equestrian Centre on Linford Pierson Highway. Entry is free and spectators are welcome.
