Savannah Primary students perform

(CNS): Judges have been assessing Cayman’s young musical talent as part of the preliminaries for the National Children’s Festival of the Arts (NCFA). Featured items include instrumental and choral music, and performances by individuals and small groups.

The students have been performing pieces from different eras and genres including hits like “Let it Go” from the Disney film Frozen,  “Hard Knock Life” from Broadway favourite Annie, Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” and the well-known hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”.

Schools taking part in the competition comprise Triple C School; John Gray High School; the Lighthouse School; Cayman Prep and High School; George Town, Savannah, Red Bay, Prospect, John A. Cumber, East End, Edna Moyle and Bodden Town primary schools; Cayman Academy; Mara’s World of Music; Music & More; First Baptist Christian School; Montessori by the Sea; Nicole Bodden’s Studio; St Ignatius; Wesleyan Christian Academy; Grace Christian Academy; Truth for Youth; and Clifton Hunter High School.

Adjudicators for the competitions include conductor of the National Youth Choir Ems Melland; classical guitarist Christoph Barnett, a former NCFA medal winner; Welsh cellist Angharad Parkes; cellist Sebastian Poznansky; concert pianist Glen Inanga; and Government school music teachers Philip Manyeh, Janelle Tibbetts and Patricia Bent.

As part of the annual festival, the Amin Mohammed Memorial Steel Band Competition will be held 29 April, with the Young Musician of the Year Competition slated for 7 May.
