(CNS): The RCIPS is organizing a number of open days to encourage more applicants during its latest local recruitment drive. The police are looking for Caymanians to join the service as constables. The open days will be held on both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac, when potential recruits can visit, chat with officers and get all the information they need to apply. The salary for PC recruits ranges from $31,272 – $42,096, with an additional 4% to be factored in from 1 July, which includes the return of the cost of living allowance to all public servants.

The open days will start on Saturday 11 April on Grand Cayman at the RCIPS Training and Development Unit, Governor’s Square, 10am – 3pm, then again on Wednesday 15 April at the same locations. On Thursday 16 April the police recruiters will be at the Aston Rutty Civic Centre 10am – 3pm.

The recruitment drive began on 30 March and runs until 30 April and the RCIPS is looking for up to 15 local men and in particular women aged between 18 and 40.

Applicants must be Caymanian or permanent residents with the right to work. They should also have suitable qualifications, be eager to serve the community, and physically able to get through the selection process.

“We are once again looking for a few good local men and women to join one of the world’s most rewarding professions,” Police Commissioner David Baines said at a press conference last month to announce the recruitment drive.

“This time, we have extended the age limit to 40, from 30 during the first drive, to widen the eligibility criteria for our local population. The merits of employing locals are obvious when it comes to their knowledge and understanding of the dynamics within our community,” Baines added.

Caymanian Chief Superintendent Kurt Walton, an RCIPS veteran of 20 years who worked his way up the ranks, described his career as a testament to the opportunities within the RCIPS. “If they offer dedicated and diligent service, our young officers can look forward to an outstanding career with the RCIPS,” he added.

The six-stage selection process includes an entrance written test in Math and English, a physical test, a structured interview and a medical test. Once selected, new recruits face 16 weeks initial training, followed by on-the-job training from tutor constables that they have to successfully complete as part of a two-year probationary period.
