(CNS): Voting has opened to select the People’s Choice Award winner among the 15 finalists for the Young Image Makers (YIM) Short Film Competition. Organised by the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, and part of CayFilm 2015, the YIM offers a chance for budding filmmakers to vie for the opportunity to attend a one-week movie camp run by the New York Film Academy.

In addition to a panel of judges choosing overall winners in the junior (10-13 years old) and senior (14-17 years old) categories to travel to New York, the public gets the chance to vote for their favourites. The entrant with the highest number of votes will receive the People’s Choice Award, and a Coolpix camera donated by Nikon, as part of a red carpet event set for the Harquail Theatre on 19 June 2015 at which the two overall prizewinners will be announced.

The public can view the competition films at www.youtube.com/caymanculture and “like” their favourite. The deadline to vote is 4pm on 5 June 2015. In case of a tie, CNCF will award both entrants.

To enter the competition, students may submit up to two scripts along with up to two accompanying films of one to three minutes in length. A panel of judges selects up to 20 students to move on to the second round, which includes a mandatory finalists’ workshop.

After completing the workshop, participants are given four weeks to submit their final, edited film(s).
