(CNS): This year’s Off The Beaten Track (OTBT) ultra-marathon raised more than US$17,000, shared between local charity Meals on Wheels and the international Facing Africa. Individual and team runners covered 50 kilometres through Cayman’s back roads, bushes and beaches.

The annual event always splits the funds raised between a local and international charity. Meals on Wheels, which received almost US$9,000 from this year’s OTBT, has been the local beneficiary for the past few years, with this charity heavily supported by race organiser KRyS Global’s Cayman office team. Each day a staff member delivers eight hot meals to people in need.

Beulah McField, Executive Director of Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels, thanked the organisers. “KRyS Global has been supporting Meals on Wheels for several years now, both financially and with the staff’s time, helping us reach the most vulnerable in our society. I’d like to thank them for their continued dedication and let them know that their contribution means a lot to the organisation and to the individuals themselves.”

The event always helps Facing Africa, a cause important to race founder Kenneth Krys. “Facing Africa is a charity that is able to change the lives of children suffering from a horrible, gangrenous infection called Noma that affects the face,” Krys said.

“The proceeds will go to fund teams of medical professionals to be sent to areas in Africa that have large incidences of Noma to treat children who would otherwise die from this fatal condition.”

In its sixth year, Off The Beaten Track has raised more than US$50,000 since its inception. To find out more about this event, go to www.offthebeatentrack.ky.
