(CNS): The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) has openings for two young Caymanians interested in a career in the arts to take up a 12 month paid internship next year. Applications for this exclusive opportunity must be in by 15 May. There are also 20 spots available for the summer internship from June until August. “The deadlines are fast approaching for our paid internship opportunities and we hope to receive numerous applications to our Creative Careers programmes,” said NGCI Education Coordinator, Kerwin Ebanks.

“If we are unable to place a student with a paid internship we will strive to match the student’s skills and available time with a voluntary project that will add value to their resume. We also offer career advice and mentoring opportunities so please encourage anyone who is interested in a career in the arts to get in touch with the National Gallery,” he added.

The internships are sponsored by Deutsche Bank (Cayman) Limited and successful applicants will learn about all aspects of museum and gallery management including marketing, education, curating exhibitions, event planning, operations, retail administration, and students will be able to meet and work with local artists, gallery officials said.

Janet Hislop, Chief Country Officer of Deutsche Bank, said for over a decade students with a passion for the arts have taken part in the programme.

“I am delighted that Deutsche Bank maintains its support of an initiative that consistently opens up exciting opportunities for local students, and that it retains such a positive relationship with the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, a partnership that is based on our firm belief that there is a real synergy between artistic creativity and business success,” she added.

Applications must be submitted by 15 May for the NGCI Summer Internship and 31 May 2015 for the 2015/16 NGCI Deutsche Bank Internship.

Application forms are available on the website www.nationalgallery.org.ky and for additional information about the programme email education@nationalgallery.org.ky or call the National Gallery on (345) 945 8111.
