Cayman News Service(CNS): The annual Olympic Day celebrations have begun, to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris. Hosted by the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee (CIOC), events continue all this week through to 28 June with national sports federations holding various events.

On 23 June, Olympic Day is celebrated all around the world offering opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people – young and old – to participate in sporting activities. Over the last two decades, the event has helped to spread the Olympic ideals all over the world.

In Cayman, each sports federation has organised a mini-tournament/exhibition, providing opportunities for young people and adults to get involved in a new sport, as well as great entertainment for spectators. Below is the schedule of events:

Monday, 23 June:

The Cayman Islands Athletic Swimming Association (CIASA) will be bringing all of its clubs together for some relays and swimming games, starting at 6pm at the Camana Bay swimming pool.

Wednesday, 24 June:

The South Sound Rugby Club will be holding a 6 vs 6 tournament for primary and high schools from 9am-12pm. This will be a round-robin tournament among St. Ignatius Catholic School (both primary and high school), Cayman Prep and High School and Prospect Primary School.
