(L-R) Head of Computer Services Department Gilbert McLaughlin, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, April employee of the month Corey Christian and Ministry of Home Affairs Chief Officer Eric Bush.

(CNS): Known as a “go to” person among government senior management for any mobile-related issue, computer services system administrator Corey Christian has been chosen by Deputy Governor Franz Manderson as the best performer for April among all civil servants.

Part of a team that also provides after-hours IT support for government, Christian is being recognised as well because he is quick to meet clients’ needs, regardless of the time involved, even if it is after hours. Additionally, in an effort to save money, it is noted that he often makes minor off-duty calls at no cost to government; normally those jobs would qualify for a two-hour overtime minimum.

Christian has proven his usefulness in a number of other areas. A technology buff, he immediately looks into every technical problem that he hears about in the department. After doing his research, he invariably offers a solution to the end user.

He also passes on to his superiors new developments that he learns about in the IT industry which are relevant to government operations.

Lauding his contributions, Manderson stressed Christian’s role in the department’s network-upgrade project. “The exceptional quality of the work produced was a testimony to Mr. Christian’s work ethic and professionalism,” he said.

In addition, the deputy governor praised Christian for furthering his tertiary education by pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in information technology at Walden University, with a concentration in networking and operations.

Christian said the award reflects his entire department’s contributions. “I am most grateful for being nominated and chosen for the award. This is a proud moment in my life,” he said.
