The Cayman Islands Yacht Club is ready to recycle

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Yacht Club is offering a recycling drop-off location for the general public. Bins are available for cardboard, plastic, aluminium and glass, with the aim of helping to keep Cayman clean and green.

Members of the public can drop off recyclables at clearly marked bins within the club, located at 164 Yacht Drive; boat users will be able to dispose of waste from charters and fishing tours as soon as they dock.

Sheldon Reid, manager at the club, said he is excited about the new facility. “We’re really proud of the efforts being made to recycle island-wide and delighted that we’re able to offer a drop-off facility here in the Yacht Club and do our bit to help.

“As a boating facility, we rely on the environment so it makes sense for us to do everything we can to protect it. Every boat that comes in is carrying waste and we want to see as little of that as possible going to the landfill.”

By providing the bins, the yacht club hopes to make it easy for local residents to join the recycling effort. Its location allows convenient access from the Esterley Tibbetts Highway and the homes within Yacht Drive, Vista Del Mar and Salt Creek, while offering plentiful parking.

Operations manager Karl Noble said that the club is all about going green and is thrilled to be working with the government and the local community to expand on its efforts. “It’s a growing operation and we hope to do more in the future to reduce the impact that we have on our beautiful island,” he said.

Materials accepted for recycling are:

  • Glass
  • Plastics
  • Aluminium
  • Paper and cardboard
  • Small batteries

All containers dropped off should be washed and lids discarded.
