(CNS): The Lions Club of Grand Cayman recently appointed a new president and board of directors along with inducting seven members as the organisation continues to grow. At the installation ceremony, incoming president Ewan Jacques spoke of what the role means to him.

“I am humbled by the opportunity of being responsible for this Club which, for the past 42 years, has strongly rendered service to our community. I am cognisant of the various challenges we will have to face and those that are yet known. However, I am confident that with the shared effort of this club, there is no challenge we cannot overcome collectively.”

Highlighted at the ceremony was the work of immediate past president Rayle Roberts and his board for leading the club over the past year, including several sight screenings, a spelling bee, swim meets, the all-island Christmas party, Lions Community Centre restoration, the inaugural youth choir competition and support of local organisations and events such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Movember.

The addition of seven new members ahead of the changeover was also noted. “We believe this is a record for our club in terms of the number of people inducted in one ceremony and we are really proud of these new members,” said immediate past membership director Anthony Ritch.

“We are delighted with the passion, the energy and creativity these new members bring to the club, but, most importantly, we thank them for their dedication to serve and help us meet the many needs in our communities.”

The new board of directors comprises Jacques, Roberts, first vice president Tannya Mortimer, second vice president Ian Yearwood, third vice president Stephen Best, secretary Donnel O’Sullivan, treasurer Ian Callow, tamer Terry Siklanka, tail twister Walton Gooding, two-year directors Carmin Godfrey and Steve Surrey, one-year directors Rebecca Jones and Lynval Watkins, and membership director Albert Anderson.
