(CNS): The local branch of CIBC FirstCaribbean will be staging its fourth annual Walk For The Cure 5K on Sunday, 4 October, starting at Seven Mile Public Beach. Participants in Cayman’s event will join over 10,000 passionate participants in 17 countries in which the bank operates in a unified demonstration of their commitment to assist those affected by cancer.

Over the past three years Walk For The Cure has raised approximately US$330,000 regionally to support critical cancer care, purchase vital equipment necessary to treat patients and host general education programmes to create greater awareness of the disease across the region. This year, the Bank aims to far exceed last year’s overall total and raise an additional US$300,000.

Cayman contributed almost US$18,000 to the cause in 2014, all of which went to the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

“We at CIBC FirstCaribbean have all been affected by cancer in some way as we have lost staff members, family and friends to the disease,” said Mark McIntyre, Managing Director, CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank (Cayman) Limited.  “Walk For The Cure is just a tangible way for us to do our part to help those who are battling this disease while honouring those who fought valiantly but were defeated.  I encourage everyone to join us in this endeavour.”

Cayman’s Walk For The Cure starts at 7am on Sunday, 4 October at the Seven Mile Public Beach.  Registration fees are $10 for individuals ages 12 and older and $5 for children ages 3 to 11, and come with a t-shirt while supplies last.  There will be refreshments and prize giveaways after the walk and runners are welcome.  Donations to the Walk For The Cure account are also accepted at any of the Bank’s three branches.  All proceeds will go to the Cancer Society again this year.
