(CNS): It is almost time to hit the links in support of  the Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC), which is holding its annual charitable golf tournament 4 September at the North Sound Club.

RBC Royal Bank has once again signed on as the title sponsor of one of the CIRC’s main fundraisers, marking the 18th year of this partnership, dating back to the inception of the event.

The tournament takes the form of a four-person scramble with a shotgun start. Tee-off times are 8am and 1pm.

A number of other businesses will serve as supporting sponsors of the tournament including Car City, GT Automotive, Vampt Motors, Eurocar, Foster’s Food Fair, and Mise-en-Place (Gino’s Pizza).

“For over 50 years, the Red Cross has supported families and individuals in the Cayman Islands,” said Jondo Obi, CIRC director. “The funds raised at this event are instrumental for us to continue to offer the various educational/awareness community programmes, establish community emergency response teams and ensure that individuals and communities are better prepared to withstand any disaster or emergency. We are extremely grateful for the support of RBC Royal Bank and that of all of our sponsors and volunteers.”

Obi added that opportunities still exist for individuals or organisations who wish to sponsor the event. “With the increased cost of hosting the tournament, we’re counting on the support of local businesses,” she said. “Hole sponsorships are still available at various prices. Sponsorships include the display of your company logo throughout the tournament and also on the Red Cross website for up to a year.”

Limited player spots are also available per individual or for a four-person team.

The money collected will directly benefit the four main programme areas of the CIRC — disaster management, first aid and CPR training, HIV and AIDS education, and the thrift shop — as well as volunteer development. Each of these components is critical to the nation’s safety. Additionally, hole sponsorships are available for $300, offering the sponsors publicity at the tournament and on the CIRC website.

“One hundred percent of the money raised through this tournament stays in the Cayman Islands and goes directly toward supporting the incredible work of the Red Cross,” said Shane Storr, RBC business banking account manager. “We encourage all businesses and community members to consider participating in the event.”

Participants in the tournament will get the opportunity to win prizes including a 2015 MY Subaru Forester, donated by Eurocar; a 2015 MKC Lincoln, donated by Vampt Motors; a 2016 MINI Cooper “5 Turer” donated by GT Automotive; and a 2015 Honda Civic-LX donated by Car City.

Special prizes will also be awarded for other categories, such as the player who hits the ball closest to the hole and the golfer who wins the putting contest. All prizes will be presented at the awards ceremony following the tournament.

“RBC is pleased to announce its renewed commitment as a title partner of this annual tournament. Our strong partnership with CIRC over the years demonstrates our dedication to the development of the Cayman community,” said Michael Munnings, country manager and area vice president, personal banking at RBC Royal Bank, Cayman Islands.

“We encourage participation as each year this event offers fun for all, while raising money toward a worthy cause. We are also grateful for all the volunteers who ensure that all aspects of the tournament run efficiently.”
