Scholarship winner reaching for the sky

Scholarship recipient Leanni Tibbetts is flanked by Butterfield’s Joanna Virtue-Markman and Mike McWatt

(CNS): Leanni Tibbetts, the 2015 recipient of the Butterfield Bank Undergraduate Scholarship, began her freshman year at the Florida Institute of Technology this month. The graduate of Triple C School will be studying for a bachelor’s degree in aviation management and flight.

Once she finishes her degree, Leanni hopes to return home to work as a pilot for Cayman Airways.

“Leanni is a passionate, disciplined, and ambitious young Caymanian woman who impressed us with her dedication to her studies, extra-curricular activities and progression in her chosen career,” said Joanna Virtue-Markman, human resources manager at Butterfield.

“We are pleased to have been able to assist her in reaching her goals through our annual undergraduate scholarship.”

Mike McWatt, Butterfield’s deputy managing director, added, “We congratulate Leanni and wish her the very best of luck in her studies. Butterfield continues to be committed to the development of Cayman’s young people and hope that through this scholarship that we can have a positive impact on the development of tomorrow’s leaders.”

The scholarship began in 1993 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Butterfield in the Cayman Islands. Available for any course of study that will benefit Cayman, the scholarship awards the recipient with up to US$30,000 annually, for a maximum of four years of study. Past recipients of this scholarship include teachers, lawyers and architects within the local community.

The application process for the 2016 scholarship will begin in February.
