U-15 boys through to semis at CFU championships

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Under-15 Boys National Football Team came from behind to defeat Antigua & Barbuda 3-1 and claim a spot in the semifinals of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Championships being played in St. Maarten on Friday, 14 August.

Goals from Kareem Foster (47th minute), Cody Ebanks (51st) and Franco Murillo-Johnson (56th) cancelled out Antigua’s 45th-minute strike in their quarterfinal encounter on Wednesday, 12 August.

The Cayman Islands will face the Dominican Republic, which defeated St. Vincent & The Grenadines 5-1 in an earlier quarterfinal match-up. In the second semifinal, Curacao will face St. Lucia after defeating Anguilla 7-0 and St. Lucia beating Grenada 4-0.

Commenting on the win, CIFA interim president Bruce Blake said, “It’s a great day for the National Youth Football Programme in the Cayman Islands. The players and coaching staff have done a superb job so far in St. Maarten and we have complete confidence in their abilities to continue winning.

“The entire country will be following the boys come Friday as they take the field against the Dominican Republic for a chance to play in the final. This is truly a wonderful achievement. ”
