(CNS): The National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is holding its 36th annual radio/telethon on Saturday, 24 October. This main fundraiser for the NCVO, which runs several charitable projects, starts at 7pm at the Prospect Playhouse.

The popular event will be aired live on Cayman 27 and Radio Cayman. The NCVO relies heavily on the telethon as its main source of donations to ensure that projects such as the Nadine Andreas Residential Foster Home remain in operation.

Over the past 10 years, the NCVO’s foster home has housed more than 40 children in need of care and protection who had been subject to abuse or neglect. Other NCVO operations include Miss Nadine’s Pre-School and the Jack and Jill Nursery, which provide subsidised preschool and daycare (including free spaces and means-tested fees), and the Caring Cousins Lunch Support Programme.

The NCVO is dependent upon the generosity of the business community as well as individuals. The organisation’s goal is to raise CI$140,000 to assist and support hundreds of children for a year.

In a statement announcing the telethon date, NCVO chairman Garry Wilkins and executive officer Janice Wilson appealed to the community to contribute to the cause, saying, “Your donation makes a difference, so please help us to help those who need it most.”

Once a donation has been received, it will be recorded and announced on the evening of the event. People may also donate anonymously.

Donations by mail will be accepted prior to the date of the event, and these can be sent to the NCVO, PO Box 1140, Grand Cayman, KY1-1102.

To donate online, go to the NCVO website and click on the “Donate Now” button (reference the radio/telethon). To donate live at the telethon, call Janice Wilson at 949-2124 or email the NCVO
