Participants approach the finish at the 2014 Foster’s sea swim

(CNS): The 31st Foster’s Food Fair IGA 800m Sea Swim takes place Saturday, 12 September, starting at 4pm. The loop course begins and ends at Governor’s Beach.

The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association’s (CIASA) sea swims attract a wide variety of participants — competitive and non-competitive swimmers of all ages — and are a family activity which allows parents to set a great example of living a healthy life, by swimming with their children.

Registration takes place at Governors Beach from 3-3:45pm. Entry fees for CIASA members are CI$10 for children and CI$15 for adults; entry for non-members costs CI$5 more for both groups.

Foster’s managing director Woody Foster spoke of the importance of swimming and the race. “The Foster’s Food Fair IGA 800M Sea Swim is 31 years old today – a testament to the longevity and organisation of the sport of swimming in the Cayman Islands,” he said. “Our family is a long-time supporter of swimming and our companies are committed to helping the people of the Cayman Islands live a healthy life.”

All swimmers are provided with swim caps, which must be worn for safety reasons. In addition, participants will receive event T-shirts, and trophies will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age group. Refreshments and Subway sandwiches will be provided at the end of the race.
