Opening night at the Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference

(CNS): The Cayman Islands Healthcare Conference, which is becoming a popular feature on the local calendar, opened to a packed house Thursday evening, 29 October, illustrating a growing consciousness in the community over health issues. Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, who is currently acting as governor, said that the annual event was helping to promote a healthier lifestyle, especially among civil servants, but in the wider community as well.

The premier and health minister said he was still trying to stay fit and healthy, but he faced the challenge of getting some of his ministers to join him.

Alden McLaughlin outlined the agenda in his opening remarks and said that the emerging trends in health care that the conference would examine were relevant to everyone, as he pointed out, “We are all users of healthcare at some point.”

The conference is being held at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman and will continue through Saturday morning.
