Deputy Governor Franz Manderson (centre, front) leads civil servants in a dress down day to show their intolerance towards domestic abuse, bullying and gender abuse

(CNS): The 15th Annual Silent Witness March is set for 5:30pm today (26 October) to highlight the ill effects of domestic violence. Participants wearing purple and carrying cutouts representing victims of domestic violence will start at the Government Administration Building.

All are welcome to take part. The route will take marchers down Elgin Avenue to Edward Street and finish at Celebration Park in front of the Legislative Assembly. A short ceremony will follow the march.

On Friday, 23 October, civil servants, led by Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, wore purple, which is the colour representing Domestic Violence Awareness Month, for a dress down day to honour those in need of support against domestic violence, bullying and gender abuse. The day was organised by the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Grand Cayman.

Patricia Muschette, co-chair of Silent Witness March and 16 Days Campaign Against Gender Abuse, explained that at the behest of the Family Resource Centre, this year’s march will also honour and support those affected by bullying, as part of a national campaign against this other critical issue that can affect multiple age groups.
