(CNS): The Cayman team placed a strong second in the final leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Junior Show Jumping Competition (JSJC) which took place in Jamaica recently. Competing for Cayman were Ashley van den Bol and Basil Humphries as the 16-and-under and 14-and-under riders, respectively. The competition consisted of four challenging courses ridden over the two days on four different horses.

Cayman ended the first two rounds on the first day of competition with eight jumping faults for van den Bol and two clear rounds for Humphries. The courses for day two were particularly difficult, but the Cayman entrants rode well, with two clear rounds and four jumping faults each.

Jamaica came through the weekend as the strongest team and secured first place for this final leg of the competition. Along with Cayman’s second spot, Basil secured the 14-and-under championship title as the rider with the fewest jumping faults.

Coach Mary Alberger spoke about her team’s performance. “The children rode hard courses well, showing good control at all times. I am very pleased with the outcome.”

Overall for the JSJC series, Barbados gained first place with some very solid performances throughout the past year.
