Civil servants showed their colourful support for the battle against breast cancer

(CNS): Civil servants made a colourful statement on Friday, 30 October, by dressing in pink to support the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens (LCTG) Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. Overall, government employees donated more than $1,000 towards the programme, which provides free mammograms for local women.

As National Breast Cancer Awareness Month drew to a close, civil servants joined Acting Deputy Governor Eric Bush and LCTG representative Judith Witter on the steps of the Government Administration Building for Dress Pink Day.

The overall objectives of the campaign are to increase the number of mammogram vouchers available to women who might not have sufficient insurance to afford to do this procedure; increase the level of support to victims and their families; and expand the ambit of the educational drive to include younger women and girls to empower them with vital information relating to their bodies.

Over the the past decade, more than 9,000 mammogram vouchers, sponsored by the club, have enabled women proactively to assess their breast health; more than 55,000 persons have benefited from educational programmes; and approximately 275 individuals have been meaningfully assisted with health-care and other related costs, both at home and overseas.
