(CNS): Hundreds of participants — both runners and walkers — are expected to turn out Sunday, 13 December, for the annual Jingle Bell Run fundraiser in support of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre.

As usual, the course begins and ends at the Holiday Inn Resort and includes a full breakfast on the beach for all runners and walkers. Santa will also be on hand to give out presents to every child who registers for the event.

The $25 entry fee includes a T-shirt for the first 300 people who sign up, plus there will be lots of prizes raffled off at the end of the race, including Cayman Airways tickers and a staycation at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman.

With the assistance of main sponsors Greenlight Re, Maples and Calder, and Flow, more than $40,000 is expected to be raised to help fund the operations of the Crisis Centre, which is Cayman’s only women’s emergency shelter.

Crisis Centre fundraising committee chair Melisa Johnson thanked everyone for their help, saying that “this event could not happen without the amazing support of the community and we want to give a very special thanks to all of the companies and individuals who have donated time and funding. This event is our major fundraiser for the year and the centre relies heavily on it for its operations for the next year”.

People can still register at Foster’s in Republix Plaza, Kirk Market and Kirk Home Centre, 28 November; Hurley’s, Kirk Market and Cost-U-Less, 5 December; and Foster’s Countryside Shopping Village and Kirk Market, 12 December.
