(CNS): Michelle Knight, one of the three women held captive by Ariel Castro in a Cleveland house for more than 11 years, will be attending an event in Cayman in 2016 in support of the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre (CICC).

At a luncheon be to held Friday, 27 May 2016, Knight will discuss her decade-long ordeal of constant abuse and captivity, her escape and her amazing capacity for healing and rebuilding her life.   Her story made headlines around the world when she and the two other abductees, Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, escaped in 2013.

Since that time, she has written a best-selling book, Finding Me, which recounts her tumultuous childhood, her life as a single mom, how local police took her off the missing person’s list when she vanished, assuming she had run away, and her heart-breaking story of unimaginable circumstances and how she managed to rise above it all.

The luncheon will be held at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, which is a sponsor of the event, with all proceeds going to the Crisis Centre. CICC board chairperson Denise Gower said she is eagerly anticipating Knight’s presentation.

“Michelle’s story is horrifying. It is difficult to imagine what she and the others lived through, but she is a true inspiration. Her message is powerful and important for all the women and men in Cayman who have experienced violence – that a good and peaceful life is possible for everyone,” she said.

The Crisis Centre is seeking additional sponsors.
