(CNS): The annual and much-loved travelling story festival that brings families out to enjoy traditional storytelling under the stars has been cancelled. The lCayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) has revealed that there will be no Gimistory this year as a result of a series of productions marking the Harquail Theatre’s 30th anniversary.

Despite the popularity of the unique and world-renowned festival, Gimistory has been pushed off the arts calendar. Since October the Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) has concentrated on celebrating the national theatre with a series of three plays staged in consecutive months at the Harquail.

Instead of Gimistory being presented as usual in December, the CNCF is staging Fallen Angel and the Devil Concubine by Groundwork Theatre Company. Throughout 2016, the year of celebration of the Harquail will include productions, festivals, poetry, play readings and workshops.

Gimistory will be back in 2016, according to organisers. “In preparation for making Gimistory bigger and better next year, we are encouraging new local talent to get involved, if they would like to audition and participate in storytelling workshops for possible selection as a 2016 teller,” said Rita Estevanovich, CNCF marketing and development manager.
