(CNS): A three-day disaster-management workshop, facilitated by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, is running through Thursday, 12 November, offering a refresher and training course for all related personnel in Cayman.

Keith Holman, a disaster-management consultant based in Florida, is teaching the course. The Incident Command-National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) interface-training workshop will conclude with tabletop exercises. The NEOC is activated and run by Hazard Management Cayman Islands during all natural and man-made disasters affecting Cayman.

Course participants include emergency services personnel from fire, police and prison; chairs of NEOC subcommittees with responsibility for utilities, shelter, health, finance, tourism and education; and voluntary agencies such as the Red Cross.

The agenda runs from the value of an incident command system operating during natural and man-made hazards to the minute details of how the system works for the best possible management of the disaster.
