(L-R) Elizabeth Daniels, Chelsea McField and Chastine Rankine of immigration department with Christmas presents for the paediatric ward

(CNS): Representatives of the Department of Immigration visited the paediatric ward at Cayman Islands Hospital on Friday, 18 December to deliver presents for the young patients. Through drives at immigration headquarters and its location at Cayman Centre, staff collected more than three boxes and three bags full of toys and books.

Appeals/FOI clerk Chastine Rankine came up with the idea when her own daughter was sick over Christmas at the Miami Children’s Hospital. That hospital operates a similar programme in partnership with the Miami Dolphins.

“The idea is to allow sick children to celebrate Christmas although they will not be at home with their families and friends,” Rankine explained.

For now the presents remain under the Christmas tree in the children’s ward; they will be distributed a little closer to Christmas.

The Department of Immigration’s toy-donation programme has been operating for about three years.
