Tyler Edison, 5, gets a present from Santa

(CNS): Santa Claus landed in George Town to give gifts to children at a family fun day on Saturday, 19 December. After arriving with his little helpers by helicopter, Santa sat down to hand out the presents and give each child a hug. The Cayman Islands Fire Service Sports Club and the Kiwanis Club of Grand Cayman jointly held the event, with gifts from each organisation including books and candies.

As the Kiwanis Club’s annual Santa landing event had been postponed earlier in the month due to bad weather the organisation decided to team up with the Fire Service, which also holds a much-anticipated festive event for the children of George Town each year.

Volunteers from Kiwanis and the Fire Service were on hand to ensure the youngsters enjoyed Santa’s visit, as well as to help with the stalls serving hamburgers, popcorn and cotton candy, and assist at the bouncing castle.

Following the visit from Father Christmas, volunteers drove around George Town in a fire truck, handing out candies to children who were unable to attend the event.

“We all had a great time and were delighted that Santa arrived to distribute gifts,” said George Town Acting Station Officer Ricardo Charlton of the Fire Service. “We really have to thank everyone who worked so hard to make it happen and thank our sponsors, including Ernst & Young, who had a toy drive for this event.”

Kiwanis Club president Daniella McGowan said that while they were disappointed their original Santa landing had been cancelled, she was delighted to join forces with the Fire Service for the children’s Christmas fun day.

“I am glad we were able to work together, everyone had a great time and most importantly, the children and their families enjoyed themselves,” she said.
