(CNS): Sales of anti-bullying children’s book, Rudolf Discovers the Cayman Islands, written by local authors Paul and Elisabeth Schreiner and released in early December, have raised more than $2,000 for the Take a Stand Against Bullying campaign. Miriam Foster, campaign coordinator of the Family Resource Centre, who also spearheads the anti-bullying initiative, said she was delighted with the donation.

“With such a large donation we look forward to traveling to Cayman Brac and expanding the programme’s reach,” she explained.

“The majority of our funds are used throughout the month of October for the bullying-prevention campaign for public education, school workshops and events for families to be aware of bullying and how to prevent it.”

Inspired by the theme of anti-bullying, the story begins with Rudolf leaving the North Pole for the Cayman Islands after being bullied by the other reindeers. As Santa searches for him, Rudolf discovers the wonders of Cayman.

The Schreiners, who are first-time authors, spoke of the community reaction to the book. “We are overwhelmed and grateful by the positive response to our book. Seeing it show up in family Christmas photo shoots and make it across the ocean to friends, as our Facebook fans have told us, is an amazing feeling,” Paul Schreiner said.

He added that they “set out to make a positive impact” and were proud to be able to make the donation.

Elisabeth Schreiner thanked local company Tower for sponsoring and promoting the book, which she credited with boosting sales.

The Take a Stand Against Bullying public-awareness campaign, which is associated with the Family Resource Centre, was originally founded in Canada, when a little boy was bullied for wearing a pink shirt to school. The campaign in Cayman aims to educate the public on bullying and how to prevent and stop it.

More than 700 books have been sold, with 26 donated to the centre.
