(CNS): The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association (CIASA) is gearing up for the 2016 “Splash, Dash and Brunch” weekend with Olympic swimmer Erik Vendt. Events start with age group clinics for the local swim community on Friday, 22 January; two sea swims (200M and 400M) on Saturday; and brunch with Olympians and the CIASA annual award ceremony the next day.

Michael Lockwood, CIASA president said, “CIASA is proud to host Erik Vendt during its Splash, Dash and Brunch celebration weekend. Erik is a three-time Olympian and Olympic medalist (gold in 2008, silver in 2000 and 2004), and was the first American to break 15 minutes and set a new American record in the 1,500 freestyle at the 2000 Olympic Trials.”

In addition to being the keynote speaker at the award brunch, Vendt will conduct age group clinics and participate in the Care Pharmacy sea swim, Lockwood said.

“We are very fortunate to have someone of Erik’s calibre here in Cayman to celebrate this weekend with us. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank KPMG for their continued generous support which is instrumental in assisting us to provide a fun, inspirational weekend whilst also enabling us to acknowledge the success of our swimmers.”
