CASE mentors with aspiring engineering and architecture students on tour at the Kimpton site

(CNS): The Cayman Society of Architects, Surveyors and Engineers (CASE) and seven students from its mentoring programme were given a sneak peek of the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa, which is scheduled to open in November 2016. The programme runs from January to May each year and consists of four monthly one-day mentorship interactions, with special on-site visits to different construction projects.

Through this programme CASE aims to provide students with a solid foundation of knowledge of the construction industry through interactive learning, site visits and one-on-one mentoring.

The Kimpton, located on Seven Mile Beach on the site of the former Courtyard Marriott, is one of the largest construction projects on island. The development has logged more than 1.8 million man hours over 130 different construction companies, using more than 38,000 cubic yards of concrete and an estimated 159,867 square feet of tile.

As part of the visit, the students toured the building site. In addition, DECCO project manager Lee Hudson addressed the young people. “Speaking to the bright young minds of the CASE programme is always a pleasure,” he said.

“If one needs a dose of optimism and a feeling that the future of our industry is in good hands, you need look no further than CASE.”
