Governor Helen Kilpatrick visits a JA booth

(CNS): Junior Achievement (JA) companies held a trade fair at Government House last month at which high school students were able to display their products for Governor Helen Kilpatrick and explain their manufacturing processes and marketing efforts. The fair is one of the key events under the JA programme in which students put their creativity and business acumen into action by launching their products in the real marketplace.

Under the guidance of volunteer advisers, students started small-scale businesses to develop their entrepreneurship, teamwork and leadership skills. The young people raised capital, elected officers, produced and promoted their products or services, kept records, conducted shareholders’ meetings, and then liquidated at the end of the programme.

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organisation dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future and make smart academic and economic choices. JA programmes are delivered by corporate and community volunteers, and provide relevant, hands-on experiences that give high school students knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship.

JA Cayman has been offering the company programme for more than 23 years and running classroom initiatives for about 15 years.
