Create ceramics at the National Gallery

(CNS): The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is offering creative art workshops for adults which focus on ceramics. Held in the gallery’s Susan A. Olde Art Studio, classes are open to students of all abilities, explained Kerwin Ebanks, NGCI education and community officer.“We want to provide opportunities for people with varying skill levels, experiences and interests. We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from our ceramic classes this past fall and have decided to host a series of short ceramic art courses,” he said.

The classes will be kept small and course fees will go toward the cost of materials and instructors.

Schedule of ceramics workshops

“The experience of creating ceramic art pieces taps into our sensory development and assists with motor skills, self-esteem, self-expression, problem-solving skills, discipline and focus,” Ebanks said. “Clay and the art of glazing ceramics has a uniquely therapeutic quality that I have seen relax and calm students.”
