(CNS): Caymanian filmmaker Frank E Flowers will be reuniting some of the cast and crew of his first feature, Haven, and debuting a special cut of the movie during the CayFilm festival in July, ahead of the 10th anniversary of the film’s theatrical release, which is being marked in September this year.

The film was produced by Academy Award nominee Robbie Brenner (Dallas Buyer’s Club) and features a prestigious ensemble cast including Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hobbit), Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek), Bill Paxton (Titanic, Aliens, Edge of Tomorrow) Anthony Mackie (8 Mile, Captain America, Triple 9) Victor Rasuk (Godzilla, 50 Shades of Grey), Bobby Cannavale (Antman, HBO’s Vinyl), Joy Bryant (About Last Night, Parenthood) and Ky-Mani Marley (Shottas).

With the tagline “Can love survive the fall of paradise?”, Haven is a story about how the lives of seemingly unconnected individuals intersect on a Caribbean island with violent results, but Flowers says that the director’s cut focuses more on the local characters and their journeys.

“It was such a special experience shooting Haven here at home and it will be amazing to see the film on the big screen, all these years later,” said Flowers. “The cast and crew fell in love with our beautiful island and even though the event is still in early stages, a handful of the actors have already confirmed their attendance. It’s also wonderful to see how far Cayman film culture has come over the past decade, because of local support and events like Cayfilm.”

Festival director Tony Mark spoke of his enthusiasm for the event. “We are beyond excited to see the never-before-seen director’s cut of Haven and so honoured that Frank E. has chosen to reveal it at CayFilm.

“This movie is such an important part of Cayman’s film history for many reasons.

It was the first movie shot entirely in the Cayman Islands; it was the catalyst for the launch of the local film industry; it opened the eyes of aspiring Caymanian filmmakers and indeed the people of Cayman to the possibility of Cayman being a world-class filming destination; and most of all it was done by one of Cayman’s very own, a native son.

“This is a time to celebrate Haven’s artistic contribution to the Cayman Islands and the legacy it has created for future Caymanian actors, directors, writers, producers, and more over the past 10 years.”

CayFilm takes place from 1-4 July, and includes daily film screenings, question and answer sessions with filmmakers, panel discussions, workshops, exclusive premiere screenings and two celebrity gala events.

The festival will feature an awards ceremony where the best local filmmaker honour, named after Flowers, will be introduced and presented for the first time.
