(CNS): Attorney Benjamin Woolf has received the Lee A. Freeman award for volunteering his legal services to the local community, as part of the Family Resource Centre’s (FRC) Legal Befrienders clinic. FRC programme coordinator Miriam Foster explained the award is named in honour of a much-valued volunteer.

“The (award) was created following the passing of attorney and tireless volunteer Lee A. Freeman,” she said. “We would like to extend our congratulations to Mr Benjamin Woolf, who was the 2015 awardee for his dedicated hours each month to assist in providing free legal guidance to men and women.

“The annual award allows Mr Freeman’s legacy of hard work and commitment to live on and inspire others. Lee gave his time generously and with compassion – and Benjamin has exemplified this equal dedication.  Benjamin was often willing to go beyond the designated hours and when FRC staff apologise for his late hours, he would in turn apologise for keeping us later than usual.

“He was always among the first to respond to fill in gaps when other lawyers were unavoidably cancelling. Benjamin embodies the qualities of a model volunteer and we are grateful for his involvement.”

Woolf, who is a partner at Appleby, has been volunteering for the Legal Befrienders since 2014 and has assisted a multitude of clients during that time.

“The FRC and its dedicated staff work tirelessly on a daily basis to bring meaningful assistance where it is most needed,” Woolf said. “It is both a privilege and an honour to be involved with such a tremendous organisation whose contribution to the local community should be recognised and applauded.

“I would like to convey my sincere thanks and best wishes to the FRC staff who always go that extra mile and take the necessary steps to assist those in need in every way possible. I look forward to remaining involved for many years to come.”

To assist further with FRC’s programmes, Appleby has donated a new laptop to the centre and continues to offer its support in various ways.

Other lawyers at Appleby who have participated in this programme include partners Simon Raftopoulos and Tony Heaver-Wren and, most recently, corporate associate Liesl Richter.
