(CNS): The public has until Friday, 29 April to nominate a scuba diving pioneer for consideration as a local honouree at this year’s International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame (ISDHF). This is the first time that members of the public are being asked to nominate a local diving legend for the honour. The Ministry of Tourism is seeking innovators in the sport of scuba diving in the Cayman Islands to join the respected group of more than 30 members who have been recognised as local honourees since 2003.

A panel inclusive of ISDHF board of directors will review each submission, with recommendations proposed to the Ministry of Tourism.

The review panel is looking for nominees who have made an outstanding contribution by leading or supporting the areas of dive in the Cayman Islands. This can be through development, promotion, a positive environmental impact or by playing a noteworthy role in the area of dive travel/tourism.

Director of Tourism Rosa Harris said, “This is the first chance for our community to be involved in the nomination process to highlight achievements of persons in the sport of scuba diving and to be considered for this esteemed honour. The International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame eagerly anticipates your nominations of the individuals you believe have contributed to making the Cayman Islands one of the best watersports destinations in the world.”

Founded in 2000 by the Ministry of Tourism, the ISDHF recognises international and local pioneers who have made outstanding contributions to the recreational scuba diving industry, at a yearly ceremony held in Grand Cayman. This year’s gala awards dinner takes place on Friday, 30 September.
