Registering for the 2015 Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge

(CNS): Registration for this year’s Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge is set to open next week. In Grand Cayman, participants can sign up at the Government Administration Building (GAB) on 7, 8, 14 and 15 April from 10am to 3pm as well as 21 and 22 April from 9am to 4 pm.

In Cayman Brac, registration will be at the District Administration Building on 7, 8, 14 and 15 April from 8:30am to 5 pm.

Led by Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, the charity 5K Challenge is scheduled for Cayman Brac on Sunday, 17 April and on Grand Cayman on Sunday, 24 April.

Entry fees are $20 for ages 14 and older, and $10 for children 13 and younger. Limited-edition 2016 DG’s 5K Challenge T-shirts are available at registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

The 2016 challenge has a target of $50,000 to help the Cayman Heart Fund in its $150,000 drive to buy a new ambulance, which will be operated by the Health Services Authority.

Now in its third year, the annual event brings together civil servants, private-sector employees and members of the public in a fitness-and-fundraising challenge. It is part of Manderson’s vision to have a healthier, more active and more socially engaged civil service, while benefitting charitable organisations and initiatives in the Cayman Islands.

The 2014 inaugural challenge raised $12,500 for Cayman HospiceCare towards a new building that is due to break ground this spring, and last year the event raised $50,000 for Special Olympics Cayman Islands, which helped fund athletes’ participation in the Special Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Registration forms are available in the lobbies of the District Administration Building in Cayman Brac and the GAB in Grand Cayman, via email or by downloading from the deputy governor’s website
