Civil servants show their support for Feed Our Future

(CNS): Members of the civil service took part in a “Dress for a Cause Day’” on Friday, 27 May, to show support for the Feed Our Future Cayman charity. In the spirit of the occasion, many in attendance at the Government Administration Building took the opportunity to sport the commemorative Child Month/Feed Our Future T-shirt. The primary mission of Feed Our Future is to solve childhood hunger.

The organisation looks to support intellectual nourishment in the Cayman Islands through the funding of nutritionally balanced low-cost or free school meals to children in need. Feed Our Future’s efforts enrich the learning potential and health of the child and also reduce the burden on the community.

Among those participating in “Dress for a Cause Day” were Governor Helen Kilpatrick; Minister of Community Affairs, Youth and Sports (CAY&S) Osbourne Bodden; Acting Deputy Governor Dax Basdeo; CAY&S Chief Officer Dorine Whittaker; directors of the Department of Children & Family Services and the Needs Assessment Unit; and civil servants, along with Feed Our Future members.

During this school year, the charity, which was established in 2011, provided lunch and snacks to 170 children. In 2015, Feed Our Future supported nearly 300 schoolchildren. Stacey VanDevelde, chair of the non-profit, explained that it takes an average of $1000 per school year to support one student.
