Needs help to find a summer job

| 04/05/2016

Is there a government department that assists high school or local college students with summer job placements or internships?

Auntie’s answer: The answer is yes. The National Workforce Development Agency (NWDA) offers this service. And the process is very straightforward.

The one caveat is that there is a minimum age of 17 for any student interesting in looking for a summer job or internship, at least through the NWDA. To start the process, you have to register with the agency. Simply go to the NWDA website and sign up for a CIGnet account under the section labelled “Job Seekers”.

Once you have an account, you can log in and use the site to search for job vacancies.

At the same time, companies with openings for interns or offering temporary employment can register with the NWDA, enabling them to look at the students who have signed up and, everyone hopes, match a candidate with their job requirements.

With summer almost here, I would suggest any young person who is serious about seeking employment for the break should register right away. As with most things, the first ones in probably will have the best chances of success.

They should have a special section just for teens that want summer jobs!! I worked my first job at 15 at a Pizza Hut. The next year it was the drive thru at Wendy’s. Several school mates also worked there. It was actually fun! I guess those were different times…
All teens should work part-time jobs and a fast food establishment is the perfect place. Too bad that seems to be beneath some here so those places have to hire overseas.

This is great work. Government at its best only allowing you to register with the NWDA at 17 when they are turning you out of school at 16. So then what happens to high school graduates in the government schools who are finishing at 15 and 16 years old – where do they go to get help to find a summer job.

Depending on your interests, there are a lot of private sectors that take interns as well.

    Why not 15?
