(CNS): The Lions Club of Grand Cayman capped off its major fundraiser, “Benzarama 2016”, with a celebration at Lions Community Centre that included picking a raffle winner for a new car and music by local DJ “Super C” and the Regeneration Band. At the grand finale event, held 25 June, in addition to naming the winner of the 2016 Mercedes Benz CLA200, cash prizes of $1,000 and $500 were awarded.

Luis Farez, who won the car, valued at more than $52,000, noted that he has continually supported many service clubs and community organisations in Cayman for the 25 years that he has lived here, but he never thought he would win something like this.

He added he is handing down his other car to his daughter, and thanked the Lions, pledging to continue his support in any way possible.

Phyllis Moxam, a supporter of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman who has sold numerous ticket books over the years, said she was excited to have sold the winning ticket, as she was also a first-time winner.

Lion President Ewan Jacques said, “This fundraiser was a major success due to the hard work by the members of the Lions Club of Grand Cayman, but it would not have been possible without the generous support from the public.

“We now look forward to using the funds raised to tackle a number of housing-outreach projects, which will once again rely heavily on the members who will undoubtedly find this next stage to be extremely rewarding.”
