(CNS): Announcing an anonymous donation of US$50,000, the Cayman Drama Society, the leading provider of theatrical entertainment in the Cayman Islands, said that the gift will help the organisation as they expand the role of CDS in the community and in particular the support it provides to schools and to individuals, both young and old at Arts who wish to take their interest in theatre just that little bit further than is commercially available in Cayman.

CDS Chairman Sheree Ebanks said, “This donation will allow the Cayman Drama Society to enlarge its investment in education opportunities for the Cayman student and adult public which can have a far-reaching effect in university placements, personal enjoyment and our tourism product. It is with great gratitude that we acknowledge this donation. While we would have liked to thank the donor in person, we understand the many personal reasons which lead to a decision to remain anonymous and we pass on our public thanks through this medium.”

Prospect Playhouse Theatre Manager, Paul de Freitas, who manages student visits to the Prospect Playhouse as part of their exam preparation noted that many factors can lead to a person or an organisation lending financial support to community theatre and other community activities.

“Cayman Drama Society offers to its young members a chance to appear in professionally staged productions which receive the acclaim of not only our local patrons but also from the scores of visitors who attend our shows. This is great experience not just as preparation for university, but also as preparation for a full adult life,” he said.

Melanie Seymour of Broadhurst LLC broke the news to Paul de Freitas, Theatre Manager of the Prospect Playhouse in late April and the CDS Executive Committee was informed at its May 2016 meeting.

The Cayman Drama Society operates the Prospect Playhouse through the voluntary activities of its members. Its Mission Statement which drives everything that it does states: “The Cayman Drama Society is committed to providing quality live theatre to educate, enrich and entertain, while providing lifelong learning opportunities and fostering creative expression.”
