Government scholarships for online study

| 21/06/2016

Is the government scholarship available for students taking accredited online bachelor’s and master’s degree courses?

Auntie’s answer: The good news is that online courses of study are eligible for scholarships if they satisfy the relevant criteria. I approached the Scholarship Secretariat for clarification, and it was explained, “Education Council scholarships are available for local online study at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels through UCCI (University College of the Cayman Islands), ICCI (International College of the Cayman Islands) and the UWI (University of the West Indies) Open Campus.”

In addition, scholarships are available for online study through overseas institutions but at the postgraduate level only. The money granted for online studies is targeted at tuition and books.

Also of note is that all scholarships are subject to specific academic criteria.

The application period for local study runs from 1 May to 30 April; for overseas scholarships, you must apply from 15 November to 31 January.

Potential applicants are encouraged to email the Scholarship Secretariat or call 244-2482 for more specific information and to arrange one-on-one meetings.
