(CNS): More than 200 members of the 100 Women Who Care Cayman Islands giving circle recently voted for the Cayman Aids Foundation (CAF) to receive the almost CI$24,000 raised at their fourth meeting since the group’s inception in October 2016. Each member who attends a meeting donates $100 for the opportunity to select a beneficiary charity and network with other community-focused women.

Meetings are never longer than one hour. Three charities, chosen at random from all those nominated, are invited to give a five-minute presentation of their cause to assembled members. On this occasion, the Cayman Islands Humane Society and Junior Achievement Cayman Islands were also invited to speak, with CAF selected by majority vote to receive the evening’s donation. The total raised in these first meetings, held over 10 months, is US$153,000 – a global record for funds donated in four meetings for the international movement.

“The Cayman AIDS Foundation is deeply grateful to the 100 Women Who Care for supporting our charity,” said Sondra Lovett, CAF head of fundraising. “This generous donation will allow us to provide much-needed awareness and education on the prevention of HIV, AIDS and STIs to secondary students at the public schools as well as the general population.”

At the meeting, Emma Graham-Taylor, chair of the 100 Women Who Care Cayman volunteer committee, introduced Kim Gardener as her successor. “100 Women Who Care is run for the membership, by the membership, and as such the current committee believes it’s important to allow other ladies to volunteer to help run the giving circle as so many have asked if they can help since we started this in October last year. We welcome Kim, who I have no doubt will do a fabulous job,” Graham-Taylor said.

The next meeting will be held in October and women are reminded to pre-register and nominate a charity online prior to the event.
