(CNS): Two long serving staff members of the Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) have been promoted to management positions following a competitive and open recruitment process, officials revealed in a release. Robert Harris has been appointed as the new airport operations manager and Erick Bodden was promoted to air traffic control manager. Harris has been with the CIAA since October 1991 working in various roles, including air traffic control and airport operations.

He has several industry related certifications, including an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) accreditation from the American Association of Airport Executives. He is an air traffic control instructor and he has a diploma in Airport Operations from Airports Council International (ACI). He also completed a course in Aviation Law for Managers from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

“With this change of specialty, I intend to bring an improved level of regulatory responsibility to the unit in order to assist the CIAA in meeting our stated mission of efficiently enhancing our facilities while offering professional services in a pleasant and innovative environment,” Harris said in a release announcing his promotion.

Meanwhile, Bodden, who has been with the CIAA since February 1999, said his goal is to continue to improve the air traffic control system and its efficiency by keeping up to date with the industry and ensure the travelling public continue to receive the best possible service.

In November 2011 he was promoted to air traffic control supervisor and served as acting chief of airport operations from January 2014 until the post was filled in February 2015. Bodden also holds a number of industry related credentials, which include a commercial pilot’s licence with instructor ratings both for land and sea airplanes.

He also has an International Airport Professional (IAP) accreditation and is one of three persons appointed by the governor to oversee air accident investigations in the Cayman Islands.

CIAA CEO Albert Anderson congratulated both Harris and Bodden on their new management roles and wished them every success.
