Lloyd Barker presents Ruth Harris with her Pursuit of Excellence award at the St Ignatius graduation ceremony

(CNS): The third annual “Pursuit of Excellence” awards have been presented to two St Ignatius Catholic School students in recognition of their efforts in both the classroom and the community. Past “Proud of Them” recipient Lloyd Barker inaugurated this award scheme in 2014 to encourage and recognise young people for performing good works and striving for excellence.

Barker presented the awards to the 2016 winners, Bianca Meghoo and Ruth Harris, at last week’s St Ignatius high school graduation ceremony.

Harris earned distinction on both the academic and effort honour rolls. Out of the 20 years of St Ignatius graduating classes to date, her cumulative GPA of 4.26 set a new high. She has been a member of many bands as well as the choir, and took joint second place in the 2016 Young Musician of the Year competition. Harris was also a regular member of the Debate Club.

Meghoo, in addition to her academic achievements (her final GPA this year reached 4.33, and she graduated with honours), performed in the school choir and orchestra, and participated in athletics, Junior Achievement and dancing.
