(CNS): The Chevening Secretariat is accepting applications for its 2017/2018 scholarships, which are awarded to individuals who demonstrate leadership potential and also have strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers financial support to study for a master’s degree at any UK university and the opportunity to become part of an influential global network of 46,000 alumni.

The call for new applicants follows the success of two scholars from the Cayman Islands, who each won an award to study at a UK university this year. The application periods runs until 8 November 2016

Governor Helen Kilpatrick said of the scholarships: “The UK is home to many of the world’s best universities, and Chevening enables you to develop academically, professionally, and personally whilst studying in the UK. Those who are selected for a Chevening Scholarship become recognised as leaders belonging to a global network of influencers.

“They share the best their country has to offer with those they meet in the UK, and then share the best the UK has to offer when they return home. For this reason, the role of Chevening Scholars is important in building bridges between countries.”

There are more than 1,500 Chevening Scholarships on offer globally for the 2017/2018 academic cycle. These scholarships aim to develop the next cohort of global leaders, and are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations..

Michael Scott-Kline, director of the Chevening Secretariat, said, “It is my pleasure to announce the opening of the 2017/2018 competition for Chevening Scholarships. Scholars can choose almost any master’s course at any UK university. Applying – or encouraging a friend to apply – may turn out to be the best decision you ever make.

“Everyone who has ever benefitted from being a Chevening Scholar has one thing in common – they had the ambition to simply apply.”
