(CNS): The Cayman Drama Society will be hosting the Cambridge American Shakespeare Tour (CAST) for their first visit to the Cayman Islands, as they mark the 400th anniversary of the bard’s death. CAST, which was established under the patronage of Dame Judi Dench in 2000, is one of the major international theatre tours of Cambridge University. The aim of the tour is to bring the work of Shakespeare to as wide an audience as possible.

CAST will not only be performing As You Like It for four nights at the Prospect Playhouse, but also the actors will participate in a series of workshops and events at schools around the Island. Walkers law firm is helping sponsor CAST’s visit to Cayman.

Andrew Edgington, Cayman Drama Society treasurer and coordinator of the visit, said, “CAST will help us to continue our mission to enrich, entertain and educate our community, and thanks to Walkers’ generous support we are able to offer ‘Student Sunday’ where tickets for all students for the performance on Sunday, 5th September will be only $10.”

Walkers partner Philip Paschalides, added, “Walkers believes very strongly in supporting education and the arts in the Cayman Islands. We are therefore particularly excited to be involved in bringing CAST to Cayman’s shores and to assist in the dissemination of the greatest wit and wisdom written in the English language 400 years on from the playwright’s death.”

Youth programmes continue to be the main focus of the drama society, which will use the visit of CAST to continue to grow its educational fund. The objectives of this initiative include the support of youth development and the provision of funding to students seeking to further their studies of drama and theatre arts at the college or university level.

Performances of As You Like start at 7:30pm (doors open 6:30pm) on 2, 3 and 5 September, and at 5pm (doors open 4pm) on 4 September.

Tickets are available online through Eventbrite. In addition, you can email the Cayman Drama Society or contact the box office at 938-1998 or through the CDS website
