(CNS): To celebrate the return of rugby to the Olympic Games, opening 5 August in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Cayman Rugby’s men’s and women’s sevens squads are inviting all kids ages 5-17 to come out to the South Sound Rugby Club at 8am on Saturday, 6 August for an hour of fun and games. Participants are then invited to watch the first Olympic rugby match between Spain and France at 9am.

The last time rugby was played in the Summer Olympics was in 1924 at which the US defeated France 17-3 to claim the gold medal. Since then rugby has grown rapidly at the international level and now after a 92-year absence, the sport is ready to make its way back as an Olympic event in the form of the seven-a-side game.

At Saturday’s event, children will be able to spend time with the national side players who are preparing for the Rugby Americas North Championships that will be held in Trinidad in November.

All kids are encouraged to get into the Olympic spirit by wearing colours of different countries represented in the summer games.
