Cayman’s team outfit scores on world fashion stage

(CNS): The Cayman Islands may not win any medals at the Olympic Games in Rio this month but the outfits that the team wore at the Opening Ceremony on Friday night at the Maracanã Stadium were winners with some of the fashion pundits around the world. The Sydney Morning Herald placed the team on their “best dressed list” saying, “With their unassuming straw hats and little cotton dresses they look like they’re on holiday.”

E! News, the popular entertainment and celebrity news show, tweeted a photo of the Cayman delegation saying, “The Cayman Islands athletes know how to do casual Friday right”.

Others were not so impressed, however. Bustle called the outfits “Your parents on vacation” and said they were “cute, but totally embarrassing”.

The team members wore casual outfits conceived by local artist Wray Banker, who also designed the retro pin the team have taken this year. Inspired by the 1930’s images of local turtle rangers, they were designed and sponsored by Island Company.

The dresses are hideous and the mens outfits must of taken all of 2 minutes to pick from the rack.

We should get a medal for this.

I love the girl’s dresses- real cute! The guy’s outfit looks comfortable just like an island outfit. Perfectly appropriate for representing the Cayman Islands imo.

Besides being super cool, “casual chic”, they were culturally representational.
